It is with sadness that we learned of the death of GENE S. DILLINGER at the age of 89 whose funeral was celebrated on Friday, March 4, 2022 in the church Saint-Patrice de Bayeux followed by burial in the cemetery of Huppain.
Mr Dillinger arrived in Normandy in 1976 after 24 years in the US Air Force. He then began a career near the American Battle Monuments Commission first at Colleville cemetery in 1976 before going to Verdun then Saint-Avold in Moselle. In 1999, he returned to Normandy and resumed his mission as Superintendant at the Colleville American Cemetery, where he will remain until 2007. It was during this period, at the end of 1999, that Frank Towers and Claude Lavieille decided on the creation of the association and met Mr Dillinger, simple and courteous man, to whom they received support in theirproject. It was at this time that he was awarded the Legion Award (2000) and the Palmes Académiques (2004). Mr Dillinger and his wife made friends and stayed supporters of the association. To Mrs Dillinger, her daughter, her grandchildren, the association sends his deepest condolences.
