On July 9th, the association participated with the family of Second Lieutenant Mc Gowan in the ceremony at the American cemetery in Colleville Sur Mer. 3 veterans attended the burial which took place with military honors and the presentation of the purple heart. The flag that was used as a shroud was given to one of the pilot’s grand nieces. At the end of the ceremony, the rosette was placed opposite his name on the wall of the missing in the presence of the family that sponsored the burial.
William Mac Gowan was an American P47 pilot who crashed at Moon sur Elle on June 6, 1944. The remains of his aircraft were found in 1947, but not his body. This one was discovered after excavations on site in 2018.78 years after his death, he now rests among his brothers in arms in Colleville.
