Discovery Day at the Normandy American Cemetery

12 March 2026 | News

Several members of the Board of Directors of Les Fleurs de la Mémoire recently took part in a discovery day at the Normandy American Cemetery organized by its new Superintendent, Bob Adams.

The day included a presentation of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), with a particular focus on the role and operations of the Normandy American Cemetery. Participants were also given an update on the ongoing restoration work at the Pointe du Hoc.

Several thematic workshops were then offered to participants:

  • biographical research and the use of soldiers’ databases,
  • welcoming young visitors and educational programs,
  • site maintenance, with presentations by the gardeners and stonemasons responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery.

During the day, it was also confirmed that a reflection is currently underway regarding the introduction of a reservation system to access the cemetery site, due to the very high number of visitors. In 2025, the site welcomed 1,838,663 visitors.

Reservations could begin in October 2026, for implementation in April 2027. The exact details of this system have not yet been finalized.
